Fun Facts About Australia – Animals and Insects

One of the things Australia is best known for is its variety of strange, interesting and sometimes scary animals and insects.

Here are a few interesting facts about Australia’s wildlife:

*There are 1500 species of Australian spiders.
*There are over 6000 species of flies. (Waving flies away from your face is the “Australian wave”.)
*There are about 4000 species of ants.
*There are about 350 species of termite.
*Australia has some of the deadliest insects, reptiles and other animals in the world.
*There are more than 150 million sheep in Australia and about 20 million people. Even so, Australians still tease New Zealanders about all their sheep.
*Australia has the world’s largest cattle station (ranch).

Now should I tell you about the snakes that drop out of trees…?

So maybe I WON'T come to Australia, lol. I hate flies (have way to many of them here) and ants are right up there with birds.

You just need to keep away from the bush. I really haven't had any problems with flies or ants here in the suburbs (or on my travels, for that matter). :)
